In our own world a host of cultures, religions, and folklore feature an ‘otherworld’, (Tir na Nog, Chinvat, Valhalla, Olympus, etc.). The Wylder is essentially all of those rolled into one.
It is a fantastical otherworld that’s always been connected to Earth, feeding off of our imaginations, stories, and fears. The Wylder acts like a psychic parasite, taking the latent energy of humanity’s subconscious thought, aggregating them, and makes them real.
(For those familiar with Supernatural, imagine if a world acted like a giant Tulpa).
Things to avoid:
- Mentioning Humans
- Digging too deep into biology/reproduction
- Toys and Monsters are nationalities, ex: Toys don't know they are 'toys'
In practice it essentially allows us to create an all-inclusive world where anyone can tell the story they want to, (more on this later), while also being able to populate the world with any creature from practically any source. We limit the scope of each campaign setting to keep it manageable, but this does allow you and our other players to play characters sourced from practically any legend, folk tale, etc. can be included within, typically with a small ‘twist’ to make it somewhat unique and interesting.
Side Note:
As with most things there are often multiple interpretations of the same stories, we try to remain consistent but that reality can’t be avoided. If you have a particular flavor of monster you’d like to play we’ll work with you to make it as close as possible while still being canon
The Realm of Mag Na Mell
The part of The Wylder our campaign takes place in is filled with creatures that resemble Monsters and Toys; created by the world using the most potent energies of Fear and Imagination.

Common Inhabitants/Creatures:

It is connected to mostly Western European and North American hotspots, (so their mythologies are more prevalent in this part of The Wylder, but it doesn’t preclude travelers from other areas).
The Wylder and Earth were connected from their birth, up until the 1940’s. So modern monsters, toys, and their interpretations aren’t a thing, (slenderman, robots, etc.) See: TORAIGH for detailed information on the immediate setting.
TL;DR: This universe takes all other historical universes, smashes them together, then coats them with a Middle Earth veneer. It is meant to be inclusive and open, and it takes itself somewhat seriously. You want to play a minotaur? A skinwalker? A vampire? Sounds good.
