Update 10/01/2022: It’s FINALLY up in color! :D

Artist Notes 11/13/2018: Well guys… a sad this happened this weekend. My Cintiq took a fatal spill. 🙁 (Scroll to the bottom for tl:dr)

I leave the room for two minutes to go grab a sweatshirt because Vermont is freezing, I hear a crash and come running back to see the Cintiq and my laptop have clattered to the floor, Mr. Scout got himself tangled in the cords. The most important thing is the pupper is just fine, which is lucky, because if they landed on him he could have gotten really hurt. And while my laptop also fared alright, the Cintiq, however, was not so lucky… It still turns on but it won’t communicate with my laptop at all.

I’m praying it’s just the cord that’s damaged because that’s a fairly cheap fix, but the Cintiq uses this insane cord that you can only get through the manufacturer that on one end plugs into the tablet itself and the other end splits into three prongs HDMI, USB, and some proprietary bit that plugs into the power adapter, the cord is incredibly thick and heavy and the plug into the tablet is very thin and fragile. (I’ve actually broken and replaced that already, courtesy of my previous room mate’s kitten! XD) SO best case scenario have the Cintiq back once the cord comes in the mail.

…But there’s a decent chance this isn’t a best case scenario. In which case I’ll probably have to mail it in to be repaired. :S So hopefully that isn’t too long or expensive a process.

SO, that has sort of weird implications for my workflow and I’m not entirely sure what the outcome will be yet. Basically, the Cintiq, though clunky, is the most versatile tool I have. It’s just an extension of my computer so I can use it with both Photoshop and CSP. Fortunately, I also have an iPad that can run CSP Mobile which is an incredible app that looks and works exactly like that desktop version. 🙂 So I can still draw the comic just fine! Problem is, I haven’t found way to replicate my painting style in CSP in a way that even REMOTELY resembles how I color in Photoshop. I use Kyle Webster brushes which I have wonderful realistic look and feel, and so far I can only get CSP’s watercolor brushes to look super… digital.

So I’m just not sure how I’m going to color the comic in the immediate future. I’m going to commit tomorrow to researching how to get more realistic watercolor in CSP so maybe I can just replicate my style. :S But yeah, I’m just not sure how long the Cintiq will be out of commission. But god help me, I’ll print next week’s page on Bristol board and paint it by hand if I have to. >.>; I’m going to figure out SOMETHING. But in the mean time, bare with me. ^ ^’ I’ll give you guys more updates as I figure out how I’m going to solve this…

tl;dr: Pupper knocked the Cintiq off my desk and it’s dead. Not slowing down with the comic just not entirely sure how I’m gonna color it until it’s fixed. But I’m gonna try to have some sort of solution in place by next week even if it’s temporary. MNM will still go up on schedule. 🙂
